Awesome Dvolver Technology.

DVOLVER MOVIEMAKER. MAKE DIGITAL MOVIES ONLINE.

Hello everyone.

For my first post in this ICT in ELT Class with Russell Stannard, I am going to show you one of the awesome technologies that can be used in the classrooms with students from all walks of life.

So basically Dvolver is a tool for sharing and making a mini video that can be shared with others through Blogger. You can make a cartoon comic strip that is available on the website and make the movie online by using the graphics that are pre-made in there. The technology is easy to use as you can always copy the Html and paste it on other websites and shares it via email within minutes. Besides, the process of making the video is not complex at all instead, it is fun and very entertaining.

Age:

I would suggest 13 to 17 years old will do (according to Malaysia Secondary School level)

To be honest, I would suggest it as part of students' homework as making it might be time-consuming. However, if teachers could allocate a slot for this session, it would be great.

And here is what I did with Russell during #week1

What I like about it?

  • It is fun!
  • It provides a platform to show students how technology and language can be taught simultaneously.
  • It involves visuals, sounds, and a lot of other interesting graphics that may simulate teaching and learning.
  • Students can email their movies to teachers.
  • Since Dvolver movie maker can be copied, pasted and emailed, it is interesting to make it as part of homework.
  • It allows personalisation and creativity as students can put their thoughts and ideas into words/videos.

What I don't like about it:

  • Words limit can be limited as students can only use up to 100 words only. This could be a problem for students with higher level of language proficiency as they might have the tendency to write longer sentences. Perhaps, what teachers can do is to set a language focus so that the students will have some guidelines to do it.
  • Besides, some of the graphics are not appropriate for younger learners. Therefore, teachers need to brief some students before hand about the website. In addition, teachers can also monitor their activities while making the videos.
